About the School - Hands-On Training specialises in personal CPD workshops for therapists across all levels of practice and experience, and the MTI accredited Diploma in Deep Tissue Massage and Diploma in Sports Massage for those who wish to train professionally.
Founded by Earle Abrahamson and Jennie Parke Matheson, Hands-On Training focusses on learning through doing and uses an interactive approach to engage therapists with therapy learning and professional development.
Hands-On Training is proud of its philosophy of active engagement and works with therapists to understand and navigate barriers in learning and practice. It is unique in its approach and brings experience into the workplace so that therapists benefit from a community of practice and learning.
About the Tutors -
Earle is an internationally published author, scholar, registered therapist, psychologist, educator and teaching fellow. He has qualifications and expertise in physical education, sports therapy, clinical psychology and educational practices. He is a qualified advanced soft tissue specialist, and has extensive experience in sports massage therapy. He currently co-chairs the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL), is a principal fellow of The HEA (Higher Education Academy) and has received the honour and status of senior practitioner in sports massage therapy with the British Register of Complementary Practitioners (BRCP). He is a fellow of the ICNM and received the outstanding contribution to complementary medicine award in 2012. Earle is an elected member of the CNHC massage PSB (Profession Specific Board), is Vice Chair of the GCMT and Chair of MTI.
Jennie had a career in arts administration and creative production before re-training as a therapist. She established her private practice, White Wave, in 2008. She combines touch therapies: – deep tissue, Indian head and hot stone massage, with hands free energy work: - healing and meditation. Jennie is also a qualified Massage in Schools Instructor, teaching peer massage programmes in Primary Schools. Having worked as a therapist at the Royal Free Hospital in North London – giving massage on the wards - she offers 1+1 training on how to give gentle massage specifically for those either in hospital or a hospice. Jennie was London representative for MTI from 2012-2014, and produced the 2014 MTI Annual Conference in London
Paul's journey with massage began in 2002, as an MTI student. Once qualified he spent two years working with people living with HIV and providing massage to support their physical and emotional well being. He also has a private practice in London, regularly working with on-site massage, bringing massage in to the workplace.
Helen is a Sports Physiotherapy Specialist, with a background in the provision of physiotherapy for the South African Nationals Sports teams, and at the All Africa Games and two Commonwealth Games. She lectures nationally & internationally and presents motivational talks and workshops. She is currently undertaking a PhD through Kent University on “Groin and Hip Quandaries”.
Jenni is a physical therapist, soft tissue practitioner and KT sports tape specialist. She will work alongside Earle during his Sports Diploma Course in 2015.
Holistic Massage Course -
The Diploma in Holistic Deep Tissue Massage - Run over 11 months, this Level 4 part-time course is delivered over 22 days (11 weekends). The programme draws together theory and practice, and provides an excellent basis to enable our students to not only gain a highly sought after industry qualification, but to gain immediate entry into practice on successful completion of the programme.
Diploma in Sports Massage - run over 12 months, this level 5/6 part-time course is delivered over 26 days (13 weekends). The Diploma is open to level 4 soft tissue practitioners, fitness trainers and healthcare professionals. Entry on to the diploma is through a selection and interview process. The programme integrates theory with practice and provides the student with extended knowledge in anatomy, biomechanics, and sport science. Graduates are equipped to treat and rehabilitate a range of sport and exercise injuries, pathologies and disease conditions. On completion of the Diploma, graduates are qualified to practise as a sports massage therapist and eligible for registration with the CNHC.
